Grading for Non Standard Courses

Purpose:

To ensure consistent grading, standing, add/drop/withdrawal, and transcript practices for courses that do not align with the standard term calendar, while safeguarding student records integrity and operational timelines.

Scope:

This policy applies to:

  • All credit bearing courses scheduled with non-standard start/end dates (including intersession, accelerated blocks, modular offerings, clinical/practicum periods, special delivery MBA sections, and independent study sections with fixed calendars), in all Academic Schools.
  • Excludes thesis defenses and candidacy exams governed by program specific regulations.
  • For all courses with nonstandard start/end dates, final grades must be entered into the official grading system no later than five (5) calendar days after the published end date of the course. Failure to meet this deadline may result in administrative follow-up and potential impact on student progression, graduation, and academic standing.

Definitions

Non-standard Session (NSS): Any course section whose published start or end dates do not match the official term dates.

Incomplete Grades (INC): Incomplete (INC) grades should only be used when a formal agreement has been made with the student to extend their leaning period. Otherwise, a final grade should be submitted.

Grade entry: Completed through the Faculty Compass Portal using your CBU email address and password (the same credentials used for email, Microsoft Teams, and other CBU systems).

Policy

  • Grade Submission Deadlines: All NSS courses must have grades submitted within five (5) calendar days after the official end date.
  • Registration Changes: Add/drop and withdrawal deadlines for NSS courses will be calculated proportionally to the course length and published at registration.
  • Transcript Notations: NSS grades appear on transcripts with the same symbols and Cumulative Average impact as standard term courses.
  • Incomplete Grades: INC may only be assigned with a formal agreement and must be resolved within the timeline set by Senate policy and will turn to a F representing a failure six weeks following the course end date.
