Protocol: The student will place and remove a Tofflemire matrix, celluloid matrix or other matrix system and wedge(s.

Retainer is parallel to the buccal surfaces of the tooth with diagonal slot facing toward the gingiva |
Adjusted loop securely around the tooth |
Selected correct size and number of wedges |
Used cotton pliers to insert the wedge(s) |
Placed wedge(s) in the appropriate embrasure space(s) for the restoration |
Verified sealed gingival margin(s) with explorer |
Created proximal contact(s) with the ball burnisher |
Restoration is placed |
Loosen retainer |
Removed the wedge using cotton pliers |
Slid the retainer toward the occlusal surface |
Removed matrix to prevent fracture of the restoration |
Discarded the used matrix band in the sharps container |
