2.30 Periodontal Dressing

Protocol: The student will prepare a periodontal dressing.

Criteria:

Student completed procedure protocol accurately Successful (S)
Student did not complete procedure protocol accurately Unsuccessful (U)

Procedure Protocol

Armamentarium assembled

Extruded equal lengths of the two pastes on a paper pad

Mixed the pastes until a uniform color was obtained

Placed the material in paper cup on a wooden spatula

Lubricated gloved fingers

Rolled the paste into strips

Provided correct post-operative instructions to the patient

Patient returns for dressing removal

Use mouth mirror to inspect site

Use spoon excavator to gently pry dressing away from tissue

Maintained intraoral fulcrum while using spoon excavator

Floss between teeth to remove interproximal dressing

Irrigate site with saline

Provide oral evacuation using either LVE or HVE

Safety measures followed

Infection control protocols followed

Demonstrates professionalism and appropriate communication skills
