REQUIRED READING

Please read the Memorandum of Understanding document above before you proceed.

Overview

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is a partnership document that describes the general principles of an agreement between the NSCCSA and the college.

This document is signed annually between each Student Association and their Regional Principal.

The College supports NSCCSA as the sole student association on campus, recognizing its self-governance and operational independence, while requiring it to follow both College and Student Association policies.

The NSCCSA is a collective of campus-based student associations at Nova Scotia Community College, each led by elected student officials. Guided by its mission to enhance student life, NSCCSA operates under its own constitutions and by-laws. This Memorandum of Understanding aims to foster strong collaboration and communication between the College and NSCCSA, supporting a positive and meaningful student experience in alignment with the Community College Act.

Articles in the MOU

The Memorandum of Understanding begins by defining roles as they pertain to the Student Association and the level of support expected of each.

Roles defined

  • Executive Committee (campus)
  • Student Association Advisor (campus)
  • Student Life Team (central)
  • Principal (regional)
  • Manager, Student Services (regional)

The MOU also reviews the specifics around management of the Student Association, campus premises, financial requirements and oversight, communication and collaboration as well as the impact of the student advocacy.

It is important to review the MOU in full prior to meeting with your regional principal to ensure all parties understanding the document they are signing.
