13 Executive Honoraria Policy

The Executive Honoraria Policy outlines what an honorarium is and the requirements an executive must complete to receive one.

Honorarium Terms

An honorarium is a token of recognition to an individual student volunteering services to the Student Association. It is not considered a payment to fully compensate an individual for their time and/or expense, but a gift to show appreciation on behalf of the Student Association. In no cases should an honorarium be considered payment for services rendered.

Terms & Eligibility

All members of the Executive Committee who fulfill their stated terms of office are eligible, upon the completion of the honoraria criteria, to receive the full honorarium amount.

Accepting an honorarium does not imply employment or entitle the recipient to additional benefits.

Executives are expected to adhere to Student Association policies, procedures, and community standards while volunteering.

Members who have chosen to resign from their position may be eligible for a prorated honorarium based on the length of their term in office, provided all reports and documentation have been submitted.

Executives who have been removed by a majority vote of the Students’ Council are not eligible for any honorarium amount.

As per the NSCCSA Bylaws, honorariums cannot exceed the maximum amount designated by the campus Student Association. In the case where you may have been assigned additional tasks due to executive role vacancies on your team, you remain entitled only to the honorarium of the position you hold.

Criteria for an Honorarium

  • Completion of tasks and responsibilities outlined on the Executive Committee Checklist below
  • Monthly Executive reports to both the Students’ Council (in person) and Student Life (via Microsoft forms)
  • Participation in mid-year progress review and year end leadership reflections

All Executives are encouraged to provide honest feedback in their reflection on their monthly reports to Student Life. This will give Student Life Assistants insight on how to best support your team and will help evaluate individual honorariums.

Executive Checklists

Tasks and responsibilities outlined in the checklists below constitute the honorarium criteria for each position:

If an Executive is unable to fulfill the criteria as per their checklist, their honorarium pay may be pro-rated based on tasks they were able to complete.

If you are unable to complete certain items on your checklists that rely on other Executive members, this should be mentioned in your monthly reflection.
