How do I start an intramurals program?

You can start intramural programs by posting sign-up sheets to the Student Association bulletin board at your campus and/or providing a QR code to an electronic sign-up sheet through Microsoft Forms. This should be posted at least two weeks before your anticipated start date.

  • You can use the intramural template for your sign-up sheets.
  • Connect with your VP Communications to advertise the sign-up process through social media and email and make sure to add this to your monthly reports to the Students’ Council as well.

Hosting & Scheduling Various Sports

If your campus has a gym, be sure to go about booking it properly through the staff member that does bookings at your campus. Be sure to connect with your Facilities manager to ensure the sports you’re hoping to host are allowed to be played in your gym.

If there is no gym at your campus, connect with your community centers to see what space/availability they may be able to offer.

Scheduling certain sports on designated days will simplify your scheduling, making it easier for students to keep track of the sports they are interested in, making participation easier for students.

Organizing different sports regularly will increase the appeal of participation to a wider range of students.

Expenses & Revenue

You may need to purchase equipment or supplies to effectively run your intramural programs. These purchases should be done after the sign-up process to ensure you generated enough interest to justify the expenses.

  • As mentioned above, if your campus does not have a gym, you may need to include venue rental costs in your intramurals budget.
  • Connect with your VP Finance to review the budget for Intramurals (505).
  • Intramurals are not meant to generate revenue and should remain FREE to all NSCC Students where possible.

Risk Management Requirements

Ensure that all participants are signing the appropriate intramural waiver prior to their participation.
