14 Academic Standing Policy

REQUIRED READING

As a student leader, you are a role model on campus and demonstrating a balanced approach to academics and engagement is important. The Academic Standing Policy ensures all elected and appointed student leaders maintain good academic standing while maintaining a healthy balance between academic and Student Association responsibilities.

Good Academic Standing

To be considered in “good academic standing”, the elected or appointed student leader:

  • Has obtained necessary grades to continue in their program of study, and
  • Is not on Academic or Behaviour related probation.

Addressing Academics

Student Life will conduct academic checks on any student wishing to run for an Executive position during elections, or prior to being hired into an Executive role. If a student leader is in question during other points in the year, Student Life may run additional checks.

When a student leader’s academics are of concern, they may be placed on a suspension by Student Life until such time as the academic standing can be addressed. All potential factors that may have impacted a student’s academic standing will be taken into consideration during this time.
