42 Supporting Sports Teams
REQUIRED READING
- Teams Charter Kit
- All sports teams who wish to be recognized as official NSCC teams for their campusĀ must go through the ratification process outlined in the document above.
Being a Chartered Team
By going through the Student Association’s ratification process, a Team will become officially chartered and registered with the appropriate college departments. This ensure that there is only team per campus per sport, and that all NSCC affiliated Teams are held to the same operational standards.
Benefits
In addition to being recognized as the official Team for their campus, each chartered Team will also be:
- eligible for Student Association financial support
- covered under the Student Association liability insurance
- eligible to participate in any NSCC sport-related tournaments (i.e. Winter Classic Hockey Tournament)
Application Process
Prospective Team Captains should submit the Student Association Teams Charter Kit (above), which should include:
- Team’s purpose and goals;
- full charter application including the name and contact email for their Team’s staff/faculty Coach;
- tentative activities/games schedule outline;
- signed indemnity agreement; and
- a completed fundraising plan (if seeking funding from the Student Association).
All sections must be completed in full and submitted to the VP Activities to apply for ratification. If any sections are left blank, you should connect with the student Captain to have them complete the kit.
Teams Charter Kit
Upon receipt of a Teams Charter Kit, you should then:
- Review the Kit to ensure it is completed in full
- Confirm the Fundraising Plan has been completed if the Team requires Student Association funding or banking
- Connect with VP Communications to have the ratification vote added to the next Students’ Council meeting agenda.
- Invite the Student Captain to the Students’ Council meeting to present their case for ratification.
Team Events & Fundraising
Teams are encouraged to host campus events and fundraisers to help raise awareness and funding to offset their expenses. The general guidelines for Team events and fundraisers are:
- Teams should coordinate with VP Activities for planning and risk management
- Teams must follow NSCCSA Risk Management and Activity Planning Manual guidelines
