Risk Management forms

Depending on your event, additional forms may be required. While we know the amount of forms required might seem daunting, they are largely to protect you, the Student Association and our students from risks associated with these types of activities.

  • If you are hosting an event at an off-campus venue, you may be required to obtain a Certificate of Insurance (COI) or complete the Emergency Contact Protocol.
  • If you provide alternate transportation by renting a bus, please ensure that you complete the Bus Monitor Checklist and Bus Monitor Contract forms.

Events involving Alcohol

Though we generally advise planning events for all ages to avoid exclusion, from time to time, the students at your campus may want to see an event where alcohol is an option.
If you decide to proceed with an event involving alcohol, please review these requirements.

It is important to remember the following:

  • The legal drinking age in Nova Scotia is 19. Students under this age will not be permitted to attend events involving alcohol. IDs will be required upon entry.
  • Student Association executives cannot distribute alcohol, and as such, must work with a venue that is licensed to offer this service, or hire an outside bar service with the appropriate licensing.
  • Some students may feel uncomfortable in a 19+ environment, and these types of events can sometimes be further exclusionary.
  • Please connect with Student Life while in the planning stages of your event to ensure all forms below have been completed properly.

Required Forms for Events Involving Alcohol

Events involving alcohol are considered high risk. The following processes/forms are required for events with Alcohol:

Waivers

Waivers Waiversare required to be signed by all participants in events involving risk (including events involving physical activity, travel, alcohol, etc.). These waivers advise those participating that neither NSCC nor the Student Association shall be held responsible for any loss or injury that may occur as a result of their participation.

By signing a waiver, the participant understands and agrees to the risk, and are willing to take that risk in order to participate.

Review the waiver guidelines if you require the use of waivers for your events/activities. If you have any questions regarding the specifics of which waiver to use for your event, please connect with your Student Life Assistant for further assistance.
