34 Lab 15: Developing Neuroscience Literacy Fair Station
Erin Mazerolle
This week, you will develop the activity to accompany the neuroscience literacy topic your group was assigned based on your two proposals.
Step 1. Revisit any feedback your group was given about their topic selection. Do you need to revise the neuroscience literacy fair topic?
Step 2. Consider what your activity could be – to match that topic. How will you engage the high school participants? What will they do at your neuroscience literacy station?
Step 3. Consider the materials you will need for that activity. What physical materials do you need for the participants? How many/much of each material do you need? Make a budget for what you expect these materials to cost. Be sure your budget has a line item for each material, quantity, and price estimate. If you are unsure about costs, look online for a Canadian retailer that is here in Antigonish (where we are studying) and search their website for an idea, or ask other people in your lab about price estimates for that material.
Step 4. Consider the activity. Can you direct participants through the activity and have them complete it in the time limit (~5-7 minutes)? Role-play the activity. How much time would it take you? Remember that you understand what’s expected, but the participants will likely need more time because you need to explain the activity and answer any clarification questions.
Step 5. Justify why you think this activity is appropriate for the audience. What makes you think high school participants will be interested in this activity?
Submit a record of your work on Steps 1-5 for homework.
