36 Lab 18: Drafting Posters

Erin Mazerolle

All groups will be responsible for designing a visual to be presented with their Neuroscience Literary Fair project. Your visual should increase interest in your presentation and act as a supplementary material.

Learning objectives:

  • to use another media to express your knowledge to your audience
  • to reduce text in favour of visuals that support your message

Your group will be evaluated based on:

  • Visuals demonstrate understanding of neuroscience associated with literacy fair station topic.
  • Clarity and visual appearance.
  • Adherence to the Visuals section of the Media guide, including references, font size, use of diagrams/pictures, etc. (232 Student Media Guide – Canva).
  • Completeness of log.

Each group will submit multiple files:

  • One submission will include a planned layout/design of the visual. This can be created virtually (Canva, Word, etc.) or it can be planned on a piece of paper and a photo of the plan can be submitted.
  • Additional editable files will include the elements that your group wants printed for the visual to be put on a poster board, etc. .
    • The printed documents should be submitted exactly as the group wants them to be printed (no edits necessary – font size, colour, etc. is set how your group wants it printed).

Step 1: Work with your group to design your visual.

Step 2: Put all elements of the visual (including text, diagrams, etc.) into editable files so that they can be printed.

Step 3: Ensure when your group submits this assignment, the layout/design is included, as well as ALL of the editable files which need to be printed.

Step 4: Submit a log describing how the elements that are included on your visual will supplement your presentation (For example, indicate how an included diagram supplements participants’ understanding.) In your log, also include any other notes to be taken into consideration when printing and putting together the visual.

Note: There are two projectors in the room in which the Neuroscience Literacy Fair will be hosted. As there are only two, not all groups will be able to access the projectors. If your group is interested in using one, you must discuss that interest in lab before submitting.
