Blood Glucose Monitoring – Implementation

  1. Performed hand hygiene.
  2. Assisted client to perform hand hygiene.
  3. Positioned client comfortably.
  4. Removed reagent strip. Checked expiration Date and code number of strip.
  5. Activated glucometer.
  6. Inserted strip into glucometer.
  7. Applied clean gloves.
  8. Selected puncture site, avoiding central area of finger.
  9. Gently massaged fingertip while being held in a dependent position.
  10. Cleaned site with antiseptic swab and allowed to dry.
  11. Removed cover of lancet.
  12. Quickly punctured site with lancet.
  13. Squeezed site slightly until droplet formed.
  14. Applied drop of blood to test strip. Obtained results.
  15. Turned meter off and disposed of test strip, lancet and gloves.
  16. Discussed results with client.
  17. Cleaned glucometer as per protocol.
