Tools, Technology and Communication
No matter what program you’re enrolled in, you’ll need to rely on some form of technology to help keep you organized, apply for scholarships and bursaries, and to access courses, grades and learning supports. It’s important to know what tools are available and how to access them.
To learn about other tools and technology available at NSCC, visit the subject guide Online Tools at NSCC
Help with technology
During the school year, if you need help accessing and using any of our technologies, you can reach out in the following ways:
- If you need help with your computer skills, access NSCC Libraries and Learning Commons.
- If you need help with your computer or equipment, visit NSCC’s Technology Service Desk. Select Technology Services. You can browse the catalogue, search for articles and access live help from the staff team.
How we’ll communicate
Email is the official communication channel of the college and we use it to send official notices of deadlines, information about policies, student services, and resources available (student awards as an example). Any student who does not monitor their NSCC email account is likely to miss important messages, like our bi-weekly “Keep Connected” student newsletter. Add the Outlook email app to your mobile and never miss an important email.
Keeping you cyber secure
NSCC uses Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), a security enhancement that adds an extra layer of security to your College username and password. MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access and enhances overall security of NSCC’s digital infrastructure and your data. Once setup, after entering your password when logging into Office 365, you’ll either receive a code texted to your phone, or a notification to Microsoft’s Authenticator app to get you logged in.
Tip
Students can borrow laptops from our libraries. Supplies are limited, so contact the library for details on availability and the borrowing process. For more information visit the NSCC Library Laptop Loan web page.
Advice from a NSCC Student:
Familiarize yourself with NSCC’s online resources and applications. Being knowledgeable about Microsoft Office, Brightspace and being able to find NSCC’s available supports and information goes a long way!
Use the Pulse app. What a game changer for keeping on track with all your school work, due dates, grades and announcements.
Ask questions about NSCC’s subscriptions and software you have access to as students. NSCC Students have access to Adobe Acrobat and I had no clue until recently.
