NSCC Student Career Hub
The NSCC Student Career Hub (formerly known as the Work Experience Portal – WEP) enables NSCC to track and report on student work experiences. It is a key component of the College’s risk management strategy, helping to ensure student safety and well-being. In the event of a natural disaster, fire, or major workplace incident, the College must be able to quickly identify students who may be at risk and respond to their needs, as well as the needs of their families and the broader NSCC community.

There are two tracking systems that are being used to report on work experiences: the Professional Practice Portal (HSPNet) and the NSCC Student Career Hub. HSPNet is used primarily for health programs with high volumes of placements at the Health Authority. It is also used in one-off situations where, for example, a Trades student would like to do a welding placement within the Health Authority.
These portals enhance the College’s ability to:
- Monitor student placements
- Report on and understand student and employer engagement and outcomes
- Collect and store information using industry standards
New student placement process in the NSCC Student Career Hub
The NSCC Student Career Hub (formerly the Work Experience Portal – WEP) now puts the responsibility on students to enter their own work placements into the system. As faculty, your only role is to review and approve placements once they’ve been submitted.
This new process is designed to reduce administrative work for faculty and ensure that students take ownership of submitting all required forms and placement details before starting their work experience.
Need help? Refer to the training materials below for step-by-step instructions on how to approve placements in the hub.
Work experience faculty guide and forms
The Faculty WIL Guide and all required work experience forms can be found in the NSCC Student Career Hub (formerly the WEP). Once you log in, select Dashboard from the navigation menu to access each section. These pages will guide you through the entire work experience process — from preparation to completion.
Brightspace course
A work experience brightspace course has been created for you to use with your students. The course is organized into three key units: Preparing for Your Work Experience, During Your Work Experience and Following Your Work Experience. Each unit includes relevant assignments and discussion topics to support student engagement and reflective learning. All required work experience forms are also available within the Brightspace shell for easy access.
You can download this course and copy the content into your own Brightspace work experience course. You’re encouraged to edit or add to the material as needed to suit the specific needs of your program or students.
To receive a copy of this course shell, submit a Technology Service Desk ticket asking for the “Master Work Experience – MASTER_WIL_Dept course.”
NOTICE: WIL students receive earlier access to their work experience Brightspace courses; this access date aligns with block enrollment.
