Using AI tools without citing is a breach of Academic Integrity, even if your professor allows the use of AI tools.
Always check citations generated by AI tools, as they have been known to make up fake articles and references.
If there is no guidance from a particular style of citation, cite AI as ‘personal communication’.
APA style
In- text citations : (Algorithm author, year) eg. (Open AI, 2023)
In- text citation example (from APA style blog):
When prompted with “Is the left brain right brain divide real or a metaphor?” the ChatGPT-generated text indicated that although the two brain hemispheres are somewhat specialized, “the notation that people can be characterized as ‘left-brained’ or ‘right-brained’ is considered to be an oversimplification and a popular myth” (OpenAI, 2023).

Chicago Style
The Chicago Manual of Style outlines recommendations for citing AI. For most types of writing it is suggested to acknowledge the AI tool in the text (e.g., the following definition was generated by ChatGPT”). However for a more formal citation in a research paper or assignment, a numbered footnote or endnote would look like this:
1. Text generated by ChatGPT, OpenAI, March 7, 2023, https://chat.openai.com/chat.
