Book Description
Ethics in science is incredibly important and yet largely considered an annoying afterthought. Once the ethical approval process is complete, many scientists no longer purposefully consider ethics as they work. This is a gross oversight that has caused significant issues within and without science resulting in a crisis of trust between science and the public science is meant to serve. Ethics is frequently taught from a philosophical point of view, which should not be discounted. However, this can cause students to struggle to apply it to their scientific practice. This OER aims to bridge this gap, specifically for undergraduate students, by providing them with the opportunity to practice ethical decision-making in an applied laboratory context using real world case studies and practice questions.
